ECSO has extended support to science journalist Simon Singh, who is under legal attack in the UK for his critical article about chiropractic. ECSO is one of the over initial 100 signatories of a statement in support of Simon Singh. On the 19th of June 2009, the campaign to keep libel laws out of science had received more than 12,000 signatories. Support from the scientific community and from skeptics all over the world has been overwhelming. "Libel laws that stifle scientific inquiry and free speech are unacceptable in a civil and democratic society of the 21st century", says Amardeo Sarma, ECSO Chairman. "ECSO fully supports Simon Singh and the campaign to keep libel laws out of science". In the meanwhile, the immense attention generated by the campaign has started to work. Chiropractic practitioners have started removing material from their web sites. Quackometer has published a letter from the Chiropractic Association that calls on its members to take their web sites online and especially to remove "all the blue MCA patient information leaflets, or any patient information leaflets of your own that state you treat whiplash, colic or other childhood problems in your clinic or at any other site where they might be displayed with your contact details on them." |
