Dear skeptical colleagues and ECSO Members!
Dr. Peter Boghossian, philosopher, skeptic, atheist, and author of “A Manual for Creating Atheists”, plans on doing a talk-tour in Europe in
September 2018.
(Similarly as Susan Gerbic had done this September with Mark Edward, András Pintér and Liubomir Baburov – About Time Tour 2017)
“Dr. Peter Boghossian’s main focus is bringing the tools of professional philosophers to people in a wide variety of contexts. Peter has a teaching pedigree spanning more than 25 years and 30 thousand students – in prisons, hospitals, public and private schools, seminaries, colleges and universities, Fortune 100 companies, and small businesses. His fundamental objective is to teach people how to think through what often seem to be intractable problems.”
He contacted me to help him with planning the tour through Anthony Magnabosco (Street Epistemology), who put Boghossian’s philosophy to practical use. The first step, of course, is to find out who is interested in hosting Peter throughout his tour.
Boghossian is offering 4 different types of talks he can do:
- A talk for skeptics on how to communicate with people who hold beliefs, which are not based on evidence.
- A talk for university students on how to communicate across the moral and political divide
- Fireside chat – a respectful on-stage dialogue covering hot-button topics
- with a local skeptic personality
- with a local non-skeptic personality
(Peter has generously waived his speaking fee and is offering to do more than one talk per organization.)
Host responsibilities
- Cost
- Cover accommodation cost for the duration of Boghossian’s stay in your country
- Cover travel cost from previous host country to yours and an appropriate portion of the overseas flight ticket
- Organization
- arrange accommodation for the duration of Boghossian’s stay in your country
- secure talk venues
- promote locally, both among the skeptic community and among the public
